Knowing And Understanding
Convince people of the quality of your leadership, directing their beliefs to one indisputable truth.
Do you remember Lt. Col. Frank Slade in "Scent of a Woman (1992)"? Towards the end of the movie, Slade presents himself to the special meeting of the disciplinary committee of the students from the Baird College, to keep defending Charlie Simms. He had witnessed to an act of vandalism occurred inside the college and he should declare to the Commission exactly how the facts occurred. Otherwise, he would have been expelled. But Charlie was not a tower, so he could not sell his colleagues.
Just before the college director, Mr. Trask to give verdict on Charlie's guilt, Lieutenant Slade, without hesitation, interrupted his plea to support his own point on the matter's view, offering in this way a true leadership lesson:
"As I came in here, I heard those words, "Cradle of Leadership". Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall. And it has fallen here. It has fallen. Makers of men, Creators of leaders. Be careful what kind of leaders you're producing here. I don't know if Charlie's silence here today is right or wrong. I'm not a judge or jury, but I can tell you this: He won't sell anybody out to buy his future ! And that, my friends, is called integrity. That's called courage. Now that's the stuff leaders should be made of."
Are you willing to resort to the adoption of an extreme position beyond the limits imposed by your level of acceptability?
What matters in defining the impact that the expansion of the relational capacity can have is the factor of changing the perception of the individual's self. Leadership distinguishes itself by attempting to recognize the level of thought maturity, but also the constraining character of integrity that struggles to free itself from doubt.
The most worrisome doubt could be placed under the sign of unwillingness to recognize how much of the others’ existence and thoughts is truth, and how much is a lie. But mostly in the attempt to estimate the value that people place on every action they take to keep a right, on all the negative aspects and key values that greatly influence their professional prestige and respect in all its forms.
Opening up towards sharing your convictions often carries the trace of a strong personality. This is mostly due to the responsible role of experience and reference values in guiding every individual towards the potential compartments that trigger response reactions. Of course, within the anticipated and controlled limits, despite the impulse of sheltering one’s self and hiding virtue, even fearing the judgment of others.
Your level of acceptability in the area of responsibility of others depends on the effect that your membership creates on a wider framework of approaching resorts of the type "look at any man as a masterpiece in the making."
Is your authority under the sign of the dual confessional identity: with self and with truth, when your role can be taken over by someone else?
So, what presents itself as relevant in recognizing "the errors" from the norms of correctness is due to the pulsation of that factor that tends to express itself through a modified or dissimulated behavior. And someone who seeks to distinguish the appearances or to prove the circumstances that he considers a support for their pretenses and objections, in favor of supporting a certain cause, can prove to be an agent that reveals understanding, trust, reason, that focuses on the direction of unspoken or partially spoken truths.
Your authority under the sign of the dual confessional identity: with self and with truth, when you start an investigation over the basic aspects of a deeper reality that people deny because of their tendency to defend – or they accept it as another punishment.
That doesn’t mean to confuse the essence of your beliefs with the characteristics they mirror. That doesn’t mean to connect the voluntary and conscious acceptance of blame to some consequences that change the way in which you see the world. It means to be stubborn and to look further on, beyond the evil, in order to reach the good in people, the latent potential in them – which can be renewed by confessing and cultivating truth.
Do you gain the respect of others through arguments that attest to your level of competence in a relationship of the type: "Separated, but together"?
Slade's intervention in favor of Charlie proved to be beneficial and crucial. He reviewed the essential values of a leader that, from his point of view, the teachers have not reached to understand to a sufficiently large extent. Through his speech full of truth, power and tenderness, and characteristic through simplicity, Slade managed to shake the teacher's firm beliefs, but narrow, about what it means to be a leader, and to put them seriously on thoughts.
Slade was able to convince the teachers of the quality of his leadership, directing their beliefs to one indisputable truth. Thus, they were forced to support his point of view, and to absolve Charlie of any blame.
Lieutenant Slade's participation at the trial meant, in my opinion, a positive fact. It was good to have exhibited the necessary qualities of a leader. Acting in an intelligent and surprisingly way, he managed to support his opinions and to render to teachers the true essence of leadership. For only a man like him who was present on the battlefield, who saw "Charlie's age boys with ripped arms and legs torn off" only such a man could truly know what it means courage, respect, loyalty and honor.
Do you feel that people judge you based on how you expose your virtues of honesty and impartiality, in terms of a retrospective of what happened without your will?
It is your soul energy and vibrations that you spread when you really have something to say, and when you really want to convince others of your truth. But you also need to wake up in the people's conscience the conception of what it constitutes the truth from your point of view, and to load them with those feelings that they will feel at a high intensity. It is a change in the essence of people, a change in their spiritual and mental state.
Leadership requires a good interpretation of the role as a leader. Oonly certain personality types correspond to this role. People judge you based on how you expose your inner virtues of honesty and impartiality, in terms of a retrospective of what happened without your will.
That means that your involvement has connotations of respect, subtlety, and wisdom, the quality of being trustworthy, stemming from the authority with which your profile as a role-model inserts you into the world.
Leadership is to expose your vision and values in a convincing way both from the perspective of a juror, as well as from a judge’s perspective, including them both into a new version of reality.
Your power of influence is like a light gushing within you and surrounding the others. It is that power given by your inner structure and that gives people an immense trust and confidence, easily uniting them around you. It is that inner strength that reflects your values and that can pierce the wall of beliefs and prejudices that people have formed.
By Knowing and Understanding a situation, you will be able to take responsibility for it. If you want your authority to be recognized, if you want to ensure continuity of your leadership, people must perceive your inner vibrations and to anchor to your beliefs based on truth and to appreciate it as indisputable.
Just as Noah, in his ark, crossed the wide ocean to carry out to fulfilment his sacred mission - so you too, to become a good leader, you must cross the distance that separates you from the other people. And you will manage to do this only if you will support in a compelling way your vision and values.
