The principle of accelerated development
On August 25, 2010, in Leadership principles, by Neculai Fantanaru

The more people are involved in the system, the quicker the company developes.

Probably each of us used at least once the Google Translate tool. Google Translate is a free automatic translation tool that allows you to translate phrases, documents and even entire sites instantly. The way it works is fascinating. Well, behind this application, there is a very complex program that scans the texts the user wants to translate from one language to another, searching for meaningful statistical models – i.e. models between translation and the original text, which are unlikely to occur randomly. Once the program finds a pattern, it can be used to translate similar texts in the future.

Translations are not always perfect, but constantly, by delivering new translations, the Google Translate tool develops and translations are getting better. It's no wonder that, in the last four years, more and more people and services have turned to this free translation tool. So, the next time you translate a phrase or a web page using Google Translate, think of the millions of documents and billions of patterns that lead to your translation – and all that happened in a flash.

The future of a billion dollar corporation relies on people

The Google Translate tool generates translations based on patterns found in large amounts of text. It analyzes millions of texts which have already been translated by human translators, using a process called “automatic statistical translation”. These texts come from books, documents, organisations, such as the UN, and sites worldwide. If the translation is not done properly, there is the option (often used by millions of users) to correct the text itself.

In other words, Google Translate, which is currently the best and most famous translation tool, can't work and constantly improve if people don't resort to it, making more and more translations. The wonderful thing about Google Translate is that it constantly improves with the help of information provided by people. The strategy that Google uses to improve this formidable translation tool is to involve as many people in its development process as possible, ensuring it a continuous improvement.

Google is a leader in terms of innovation, and its developed strategy, in order to differentiate from competitors already on the market, turned in another direction, mainly focusing on users. In other words, Google guided in its development process by the saying: “In order to develop fast, you must involve in the development process as many people that would become contempt with the system's reliability.”

The quick development of your company depends on the support of many people

The development of a system requires continuous improvement, including human relations. And Google Translate is visibly improving each day with people's help. This tool, which is meant for the entire market (i.e. all people, regardless of age, sex, education, etc), not just one specific segment, is one of the levers Google sorporation uses to increase its value.

To improve the quality of any system in your company, through which you can get many benefits, you must continue to develop it. But the only way to sustain development is to turn increasingly more to people's help. And the more people are involved in the system (and as capable as possible, if possible), the more it develops faster. Therefore, as a leader, your most important duty is to find a way to attract as many people, making it so that they also have to win. If their impetus is strong, then they will continue to develop and the company you run will also grow along with them.

The principle of accelerated development brings many benefits, much higher compared to investments. This principle is based on creativity, innovation and the involvement of human factors as the desire of improvement, of interpersonal reltionships and the curiosity and desire to know new things. Alone, without the involvement of these human factors, the advanced technology can't ensure the accelerated development of a system and neither of society, in general.
